Washington +1.40 over ST. LOUIS
The Rams have looked awful in the pre-season thus far and we don’t expect much to change here. This is a team that is completely out of sync and due to a quirky pre-season schedule, chances are they’ll be less ready tonight. Just four days after the Chiefs debacle, the Redskins come calling tonight at the Edward Jones Dome. Most NFL players need a day or two just to recover from the normal aches and pains of a game. This week, Rams players had Tuesday off, then had lighter than normal practices Wednesday and Thursday, and now, another game. The first string offense has yet to score a TD. The defense has yet to come up with a turnover, first-string, second-string, or any-string. There’s plenty to iron out and two soft workouts this week is not going to improve things. Martz spent only two hours last week game-planning the Chiefs (we saw what happened there) a fraction of what he would do for a regular-season game. Given the short work week, it's doubtful he did more for Washington. The Rams didn't even watch the Kansas City game film as a team, although some players did so Tuesday on their own. There was simply no time. Instead, position coaches left comments on grade sheets for the players to examine. Bottom line here is that the Rams are not prepared and the Skins have been extremely sharp, especially in last week’s 17-0 win over Miami in which the ground game accumulated 181 yards. Two good QB’s in Ramsey and Brunell will vie for the starting job here so you know both will be focused and motivated. See nothing in the Rams that suggests they are capable or ready to compete here. Play Washington +1.40 (Risking 1 unit).
